How To Unlock The Cloud for Your Business

2024-03-03
Software as a service (Saas), or cloud computing, has become a game changer for businesses looking to shift away from the traditional legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) model. Prior to SaaS, small to medium sized businesses were forced to invest a substantial amount of capital into technology in order to get the businesses operations up and running. This model, which is now referred to as Legacy ERP, required business owners to take a more hands on approach to the company's technology and software.

Today, rather than investing a large amount of capital into networking technology, businesses can opt to rent technology and software. This process is referred to as Cloud ERP. By implementing cloud ERP into one's business, owners can save both time and money, while enjoying a number of other benefits.

Reason 1- Low Initial Startup Costs

Cloud computing eliminates the need for businesses to invest large amounts of capital into networking solutions. One of the most expensive areas of starting a business is the initial investment into technology and software. Components such as routers, computers, storage centers, security systems and software can require a significant outlay of capital upon startup. Despite their costs, all of these components are necessary for the business to operate. With Cloud ERP, business owners can opt to subscribe to a Cloud ERP provider and rent all of these components. By opting to pay for a monthly rental fee, business owners can better match business monthly revenues and with monthly expenses.

Reason 2 - Hands off Approach

Another benefit of cloud computing is that is passively managed. Under Legacy ERP, business owners are required to keep up to date with the latest technology in order to remain relevant. This can be a tedious process for business owners, as many don't have the time to constantly install new software updates for the entire office. With Cloud ERP, business owners aren't required to keep up with the latest and greatest technology for computers or software. Instead, by renting out the technology and software from an ERP provider, business owners can take a hands-off approach to managing the company's infrastructure. Technology and software updates are installed by the ERP provider as they are released, rather than when the technology department/business owner can make time for it. In doing so, small and medium sized business owners can spend more of their time focusing on what matters, rather than troubleshooting technology/network issues.

Reason 3 - Remote Access

Cloud ERP allows the subscriber to access information from any internet connected computer. Prior to Cloud ERP, businesses weren't able to share data as easily through Legacy ERP. Due to the on premise nature of the Legacy ERP data centers, data transfers could be a tedious and time consuming process. By choosing to implement cloud computing in one's business, all of the important information and software that is necessary to operate is stored off site. This allows for employees to tap into the exact software that they were to use in the office. In doing so, employee's work schedules can be more flexible, client work can be done more efficiently and valuable time isn't wasted trying to transfer important files and data.

Reason 4 - Flexibility

Lastly, Cloud ERP allows the subscriber to scale up or scale down the amount of software and technology required to operate the business. Because Cloud ERP operates on a month-to-month basis, business owners can opt to increase the amount of data storage and software or cut back based upon the businesses standing. Legacy ERP required business owners to liquidate expensive servers, or purchase additional software licenses in order to keep up with business growth. By implementing Cloud ERP, business owners can easily adapt to the ever changing business environment.
